Pastoral Council

Pastoral Council is a consultative body that assists the pastor in promoting the parish mission of worship, education and service.  The Council now works closely with our cluster partner of Saint Paschal Baylon Parish to enhance the Catholic presence in greater Hillcrest.  The lay members are discerned for four-year terms and meet ten months of the year.

 

Pastoral Council Members

Mark Schmitt - Council Term:  2017-2021

Position on Council:  Council Chair

Parishioner since: 1979

Married to Marianne for 32 years.  Raised 4 children, all of whom attended St. Clare School between the years of 1985 and 2003!

Ministry Involvements:  Linen Ministry, Sunday Collection Count, Funeral Server.

Hobbies:  Gym workouts, bicycling, cooking, grilling, pairing wines with food, watching old movies & training my German Shepherd.

One thing people may not know about me:  My German Shepherd, Abby, and I have logged over 500 hours of classroom obedience training time.  Every day we spend an hour working together on her various commands, which consist of 150 verbal and silent commands, which are given in 3 different languages.

Toni Costabile - Council Term:  2016-2020

Position on Council:  Member

St. Clare Parishioner since: 1952

Married to Jim for 53 years
Three adult children and 7 grandchildren
 
Ministry Involvements:  I am a Eucharistic Minister at Hillcrest Hospital and a Lector in church when needed.

One thing people may not know about me:  I worked for 23 years for Mayfield Schools as a paraprofessional.

Catherine DiVincenzo - Council Term:  2015-2019

Position on Council:  Member

Parishioner since: 1982

Husband Paul, sons Dino, married to Erin, and Paul & John live at home.

Ministry Involvements:  Volunteered for many years at the Little Sisters of the Poor and the Festival at St. Clare

Hobbies:  Reading and walking

One thing people may not know about me:  I am a hairdresser and owned a hair salon for 11 years in Solon.

Hilary Dsouza - Council Term:  2014-2018

Position on Council:  Member

Parishioner since: 2004

Married to Winifred(Winny), daughter Taniya

Ministry Involvements:  Music ministry, St. Clare Festival

Hobbies:  Running, gardening & family

One thing people might not know about me:  I am an Indian from Mumbai.

William Forsythe, III - Council Term:  2015-2019

Position on Council:  Member

Parishioner since: 1971

Wife Paula; children, William IV & Amy

Hobbies:  Curling, golf

One thing people might not know about me:  I have an MBA in addition to an MD.  I have officiated at 2 Olympics, 2 Para-Olympics, multiple world championships.  I am the national chief umpire for the United States Curling Association.

Jack Guritza - Council Term:  2016-2020

Position on Council:  Member

Parishioner at St. Clare: for four years.

Married to my wife, Rebecca and have two daughters.
Pets:  Two cats.

Hobbies:  I play ice hockey and enjoy board games with friends and family.

One thing people might not know about me:  Both my wife and I teach PSR at St. Clare.

Mark DeSilvio - Council Term:  2018-2022

Position on Council: Member

Parishioner Since: 1985

Married to and children: Rosemary Sweeney.  Son Thomas

Hobbies: Photography, Rifle and pistol shooter, American history

Ministry Involvement: Eucharistic Minister, Lector

One Thing People May Not Know About Me: Formerly a pro photographer that specialized in commercial and industrial photography.  The most fabulous shoot was photographing the 3rd launch of the Space Shuttle!  The most unnerving was photographing coal mining 350 feet under the Ohio River.  The best shoots were turning ordinary industrial scenes into portfolio quality images.

One thing people might not know about me:  I graduated from Notre Dame.

 

Vickie Nally - Council Term:  2016-2020

Position on Council:  Member

St. Clare Parishioner: for 3 years

Two children, Lisa and Brian
No pets but am happy to sit for my kids' dogs, Daisy and Lexie
I retired in May 2017 after 31 years of teaching Mathematics
I really enjoy sports and cheer for the Indians-rain or shine!
I enjoy exercise class and walking
I love being Nana to my beautiful grandchildren!

Marianne Schmitt - Council Term:  2018-2022

Position on Council: Member

Parishioner since: 1985

Married to Mark for 33 years.  Raised 4 children, all of whom attended St. Clare School between the years of 1985 and 2003.

Ministry Involvement:  Church Linens,  St Clare Festival Volunteer - all 4 days of Festival from beginning to end each day, “Pseudo” St Clare Council member behind the scenes for 2 years through Mark, and now an official Council member

Hobbies:  Having earned & enjoying empty nesting fun with my husband and our German Shepherd, Abby  /   Being creative - e.g. “Shuttterfly” projects  /  Reading   

One thing that people do not know about me is:  For my 60th birthday in 2017, I got my Carry Conceal Permit - very important in a Law Enforcement Family!  My husband served for 38 years, and retired as the Senior Detective 1st. Grade.  Our oldest son serves on a Police Department close to St. Clare Parish, and the other son is a Federal Agent.

Judy Stofan - Council Term:  2018-2022

Position on Council: Member

Married to and Children:  Married to the late Wayne Stofan

Hobbies:  Traveling

Ministry Involvement:  Eucharistic Minister since 1984, Lector, Outreach Committee

One thing people may not know about me: that I have been a member of St. Clare since 1970

Mary Jane Ponyik- Council Term:  2018-2022

Position on Council: Member

Parishioner Since: 1990

Married to and children:  Married to Chuck Ponyik.  I have two children, Charlie Ponyik and Janie Ponyik Stalder. 

Hobbies: Swimming, reading, gardening piano, cooking and baking

Ministry Involvement:  Music ministry, co-direct VOCE.    PSR Substitute teacher.

Pat Gilbert- Council Term:  2018-2022

Position on Council: Member

Parishioner: I have been at St. Clare since 1998

Married to and children:I am married to Bill.   We have 7 children between us.   We have 4 grandchildren.

Hobbies:   I love baking, gardening, birds, crocheting and travel.

Ministry Involvement:  I am one of the three female ushers.

One Thing People May Not Know About Me:  I have a life goal to see every state….just 6 to go!
